I started building up speed as usual almost immediately after setting out.
One challenge I have been struggling with for quite some time, as a child of God is inadequate self- control in traffic. The good Lord had delivered me from what could have been fatal accident several times in the past and I have cause to acknowledge and thank Him always as my present help in times of trouble.
The road I was traveling was not dual carriageway, but double traffic stretch between Ondo and Ile-Ife. I meandered along the road that trans-passed scattered hamlets and houses on either sides of the road before I approached a straight stretch beginning from a valley and with the hill in the horizon.
Suddenly, I felt an unusual stiffening of my steering wheel and heard some funny noise from my rear wheel with the car veering off the highway towards the side bush. Initially and naturally, I panicked but then I summoned courage and kept faith alive, brazing up to make the best of the situation. The car careered on along the bushy embankment for what appeared to be longer than it actually took before coming to a halt by the side of the road.
Unknown to me, some villagers were watching the unfolding drama, some aroused, running out from their houses, with anxiety and grave concern, half shouting, half praying.
My heart was on the upbeat obviously and cold sweat was already dropping from my forehead. As I opened the door and came out unscathed, the crowd already gathered and some were still running towards us to behold the lone and lucky traveler.
In my confusion and awe, I heard people saying, “It is a miracle, another said, “God is merciful”…
A middle- aged man came closer to me saying, “Please gentleman, never you leave the God you are serving” while the rest gazed in awe thanking God on my behalf.
Some of the villagers in the distance were already rolling along a tire, which they retrieved, from the nearby bush. Only then did I discover what really happened. A young girl thanked God saying, “One of your tires came off the wheel in motion. Then I looked at the rear right wheel and there was no tire.
I raised my hands in the air and praised the Lord. The crowd and well- wishers who were now smiling chorused “HALLELUJAH”. Our God is our present help in time of trouble. My help comes from the Lord who neither sleeps nor slumbers. (Ps.121; Ps.124:8).
