I think about times I got up in the morning, ate the breakfast that my mother prepared. Might be eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, or even a bowl of cereal I fixed myself. We headed off to school, and sometimes watch cartoons, or go outside to play.
We went merrily to kindergarten, and then first grade, and every where we went, there it was! Everything was provided for us. Food, clothing, books, rides, toys, a bed to sleep in, roof over our head and the list goes on and on.
At school we had a great lunch and snack time, friends and teachers, then went home on a bus that pulled up in front of us. All the things just appeared, and we didn't wonder how they got there. Sure was a good feeling wasn't it? So, can anybody recall what a BILL was at 4, 5, or 6 years old?
We didn't question life, or question our parents when they said, "Time for school!" or "Time to get up!"
When my mom asked me to help hang out the clothes, I was always happy to help my mother. It didn't seem like a chore in those days. We didn't get paid by the hour for doing it, but the sheets sure smelled good when I snuggled my nose in them at night. We had no control of our lives! Frankly, I loved every minute of that feeling of absolute freedom.
What a contrast, we find today, and after we have become grown adults. Bills we have to pay, jobs we have to perform, homes to keep up, family to feed and provide for. So much responsibility we carry on on our shoulders.
Many women and men today proclaim, "We are in control of our lives!" Birth control, remote control, I received an e-mail one day with a photo advertising a He-Mote control. On and off button for snoring, one for take out the trash, buy flowers, etc, etc. Well, ya gotta think that one is funny, I sure do.
Many want to do it all on their own, because they don't want to be controlled. They don't feel they need to seek help in any direction. They have it all in control. Or so we might think.
They bust their brains trying to stay on top, to have it all, to have it made. But yet, never really have the time, or energy left after all that controlling to relax, breath deeply and enjoy the time the Lord has given us here on HIS earth.
Migraine headaches, and multiple health problems run rampant. Depression, anxiety, stress, suicidal tendencies, mental disorders all these things have become common place in our society today. Control,we think we have it... but do we?
I have a theory in which I would like to conclude my story with: If only we had the faith like as a child...
Lord Jesus, I don't want control of my life. Take my heart, my soul, my very life. Live in me, and me in you. Thank you blessed Lord, for making my life complete. amen
