Topic: REMEMBER (10/19/17)
Ruth is a beautiful portrait of how God has been working out His plan for salvation. Her life is an illustration of God’s love and devotion, in that when we didn’t even belong He had already fashioned out a plan to make us a part of His family. And though we had to leave behind certain things and people, it was all worth it because He gave us so much more by graciously, making us a part of His lineage. Just as Ruth, a foreigner became part of the linage of David and Christ, we have been beautifully grafted into God’s family.



Esther, queen of Ahasuerus echoes this beauty in a unique way. For we have been favored since we didn’t choose God, but He chose us. We have been made part of a royal kingdom. As Esther, a peasant was chosen to be queen so have we been chosen to be part of a royal priesthood. The means through which this was accomplished by the Holy King who sought a relationship with a sinful people is mind-blowing.



Malachi tells us about a prophecy unclear to many about the plans God had put in place to come down to His people, His temple. Before the messenger was born, He had already predestined that he come before the Lord and make His path clear. Everything certainly became clearer when Matthew gave us an account of how the prophecy unfolded and the Lord came to lay down His precious life on the cross of Calvary to save the people who desperately wanted to kill Him.



Emmanuel is His name, with a beautiful meaning, God with us. He is the very Son of God, believing in Him brought about our redemption, healing and the right to be called the children of God. We have been set free from the chains of the devil to serve and love God. He is the word of God, an embodiment of love, grace, truth. Through Him we have been saved with an immeasurable inheritance of eternal life.



Mark, understood this just as we do, because he shared his version of the story. He had the inheritance of eternal life as well with a promise of sitting as one of the 12 to judge others, and as exciting as that is, there was something different with him and the other apostles. Salvation and the promise of eternal life didn’t just make them excited but propelled. Like charged electrons, they were people in love with Jesus bent on leaving everything behind to live a life of holiness. They were keen on fulfilling the commission by sending the message of the gospel to every part of the world. They had died to themselves, striving through trials to witness and be witnesses. It was so obvious they were called Christians.



Believers in Christ, a group we ourselves belong to. Except that unlike us, they were not only believers, they were lovers of Christ and haters of the pleasures of the world. They were not called Christians just because they believed in the Gospel but because they looked so much like Christ.



Ephesians, an important city in Asia, harbored a group of Christians who were in contact with Paul. His letter to them is printed in the Bible and one which will be useful to us. It affirms the inheritance we have received, reminds us that we have been raised with Christ and are a workmanship created for good works. It teaches us to be imitators of Christ, not giving the enemy an opportunity but to be well armored. It reminds us of who we are married to, the Saviour Jesus Christ. A great detail we are not to forget.



Revelation is one of the books of the Bible that makes this truth clearer to us. They are John’s words, reminding us that Christ will be coming in His glory at an appointed time for His bride, the church. It will be a glorious day indeed but until then we are to reflect Christ and we have all it takes to do so. We have the HolySpirit to give us the power to live for Christ, to bear fruits pleasing to the Lord through an understanding of the word and have confidence to come boldly before the throne of grace. Until we see His face, we are to be His face, in the eyes of the world. Let’s not forget from whence we have come and where we are going.

I enjoyed the many truths contained in your article. I think you could have brought all these truths home even better by summarizing them in a concluding sentence or paragraph.

A couple of things to note: the city that Ephesians was written to was called Ephesus. The believers were first called Christians at Antioch ( and the title would have been applied to the apostles after that point).
I didn't think/know that John Mark, the author of Mark, was counted among the 12 apostles.

I enjoyed how you used the examples of biblical characters to show how believers are grafted into God's family.

At times, I thought you used too many theological terms.
