Topic: PHONE (11/10/16)
You can dial it and someone somewhere else will hear it ring
You can make it sound like days gone by or you can make it sing
It’s your life line to family, friends and the World Wide Web
Some feel that they need it so much that they take it to bed

You can check the date, the time and what the weather is
You can check the business world or the world of show biz
You can map out where you’re going and see how long it will take
And you can find amazing recipes if you love to cook and to bake

You can now talk to someone by just using your finger tips
That’s not speaking to someone when you’re not using your lips
You can watch a video, listen to music, and take a prize winning photo
You can probably do whole lot more, but I don’t own one so I don’t know

Romans 12 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world’
It’s hard though when insults just miss you as they are being hurled
But I will stand by these words because they are words to live by
No matter how many times I hear, “That is one weird guy”

I sometimes feel like I’m out of the loop and that’s OK
Knowing only by the grace of God I can make it through the day
People are posting everything they feel are a give and take
I post scripture and warn them about what’s at stake

I will pray for you all as you go through your daily routine
Even those who mock me because they haven’t yet seen
And to those that think that my faith and beliefs are a joke
I pray for your safety from the wolf in the shepherd’s cloak

Now as we move forward with this new and exciting age of bliss
Know that I will never text you, but will greet you with a holy kiss
I admit that watching others in action that I probably do stand alone
But I know the end of the story and there I won’t need a phone

This is a very well written essay in poetic style. The length of lines and rhymes made it easy to read.

Your thoughts were easily detected as well as respected.

We each have to choose to "work out our own salvation with fear and trembling".

Thanks for sharing your timely poem. Regarding the line "That’s not speaking to someone when you’re not using your lips" - do you think it would be better said, "That's speaking to someone when you're not using your lips"? Just a suggestion.
