Eva grew up without her parents, without any family members in fact. Her mother and father were killed in a car accident when she was only five years old. She herself had not been expected to survive. Having no other family members to take her in, Eva was raised within the foster care system, moving it seemed like every year.
Now a young adult, nineteen years old, Eva stood before the church accepting Christ into her life. This was the reason for the tears and the heart warming smile. When the pastor made the altar call she had practically ran to the front of the church. The tears signified the release of the pain, grief, and feelings of rejection that she had been carrying for fourteen years. She smiled because the family that she had not had as a child, she now had.
When she surrendered her life to God, accepting Jesus into her heart and life, she was adopted into God’s family. It no longer mattered to her that not one of the many foster parents had wanted to adopt her. Eva now had a heavenly father who she knew would “never leave nor forsake her”, a “comforter” who would guide and advise her, and a congregation of believers who were now her brothers and sisters in Christ.
