The moment of a first kiss evokes countless emotions and physically stirs a fluttery stomach, nervous hands or awkward body. That first kiss lasted seconds, maybe even less, but was imprinted on the heart forever. Remembered smells, tastes, touches last for years or even a lifetime. Some first kisses though become forgotten, tossed into the void of lost memories.
The birth of a first child is long anticipated, yet it feels that we are thrust into parenthood quickly. Where’s the manual, you may have asked on the drive home from the hospital. What’s the world thinking, handing ME a baby? Over time, moments allow you to grow to be a parent through changed diapers and nighttime feedings. Hugging little ones tight only to learn over time that parenting is designed for letting go.
The measure of a man is taken over a lifetime, folding in slips and slides. What is ultimately counted is the way that one comes through adversity, prosperity, and even simple days. Strength for family, or time spent with a loved one. Efforts paid through commitment, tenderness, and even toughness. How time was spent can become the measure of a man – or woman.
Love is a funny measure of emotions. Romantic love makes the heart miss a beat. Parental love is felt in a spit second, as realization that a bond has been made hits. Comfort comes through hours spent with loyal, listening friends who stay constant through life’s rolling path. Constant friendship despite forks or round-a-bouts.
Significant life events take place in a time slice that is immeasurable. Stops in one’s life that touch, bring smiles, or sometimes hurt. Months of planning a wedding that is over in minutes. News from the doctor about a diagnosis that took minutes to explain but a mere glance to know. Loyalties lost, sins forgiven, and relationships broken or mended in an instant. Time that slows each day and then speeds through short visits from grandbabies. Immeasurable is deeply felt.
After trying to comprehend our large and small moments, we multiply the significance immeasurably to understand God’s love for us. His love is timeless, boundless, and unending. Do we grasp that concept? His thoughts for us exceed the sands in the oceans. Can the sand caught in a swimsuit be counted after a romp in the surf? Can we even begin to count granules stuck like magnets despite a carefully placed towel on the beach? God’s love is vaster than all the sand on all the beaches and in the oceans. God is with us through each measured breath that we take in our lifetimes. His love is constant. How can we, in our small human brain and heart, begin to measure that?

I stumbled just a not over one sentence....as realization that a bond has been made hits. I think if you had just switched it around like this: as realization hits that a bond has been made.
it might have flowed better.
But even with that tiny red ink, I still think you did a marvelous job on this. It really touched my heart. I found myself nodding my head in agreement as I read. Fabulous bit of writing.
