Back in my grandmother’s day, a trip to the mercantile, a small selection of can goods waited on you, along with your sugar and flower, to be sacked by how much you ordered. And like today, you could get your sewing needles, thread, and yard goods, (material for making dresses, shirts, curtains, and such.)
You could go in and get soda crackers, slice cheese, pickles in a big wooden barrel, even soda pop, like orange, root beer, red pop.
They carried seasonal items from the garden, and seeds to grow your garden, and much more.
Unlike today, where you can go and get fixings for each meal, all kinds of lunch meat, cheeses, breads, cooked rotisserie chicken, you had to plan a meal, and to make most of what you needed, including butter.
A lot of people rely on the fast food places, well known restaurants, pizza places and the chicken places.
Many do not cook at home, prepare meals from scratch, or even set at the dining table. But others, it’s a problem going to the pantry and finding something for each meal. Where the groceries did not stretch far enough.
As far as groceries are concerned, you can watch people and their shopping habits, some are strictly sale items that they are after, or their shopping cart is loading with all kinds of products for their home.
As for me I dread going to the grocery store, I hate trying to think of something different to fix, or to get all I need for that week, taking them out to be cashed out, then putting them in the car, getting them home, and then the chore of putting them away. Let me add the greatest burden is paying for them. I need to check myself, I should be very grateful.
The time that we are living in is fast becoming a time of not being sure as to our future where prices, quantity, and quality of our food, is being greatly compromised. We live in a land of plenty, but is that becoming a thing of the past?
It’s a time where they are recalling this or that because of potential threat to our health if we eat it.As I write, cantaloupes in our area were recalled.
I guess you can see that I am not finding joy in writing this, because of the effects that it has on so many people, I tried to be uplifting, but I think I missed the boat somewhere, I pray that we can stave off hunger in our world, but as a follower of Jesus, I know that time is changing in our world, and not for the better.
But as believers we must keep praying in all things, God meets our needs, but it is getting hard for so many to make ends meet. And the one that is getting hard is groceries. With the prices still rising almost daily is the world headed to the time in Revelation 6:6a, where it talks about a quart of wheat for a denarius?
If you are not a child of God, and you do not see what is coming, you do feel overwhelmed as you try to feed your families. Many have four or more people in the family and your groceries have to go further, and many times you have to divide it into smaller portions. Will we see worse? We already are, all over the world with the famine wide spread, there are people starving in among us.

I noted a few tiny errors like set instead of sit. Having someone as a challenge buddy might help to catch those little typos.
Though the world is in a tough situation what joy there is in knowing Jesus. With the right mindset even the mundane tasks can be a way of serving the Lord. Good job.
