Well, it wasn't any big deal, not for the God of the Ages! He can do anything, right? That's what my parents taught me, that's what our preacher said, that's what the Bible tells us. So WHY is that thought of just ONE WEEK so amazing?
For one thing, think of that very first day. God did no less than to create the heavens and the earth. Ok. I get it. That's what the Word says. I do believe it, right? Here comes that word again...OVERWHELMING! How can something that wasn't, all of a sudden BE? I know I'm using alot of capital letters here, it’s something that SHOULD be capitalized!
Then, God created light. There was a void, where there was only darkness, but suddenly everything was lit up like a giant lightbulb. And then God divided it! How on earth? Well, yes, that's where it was, and that's what He did...He divided the dark from the light right here on the earth. And all of this was on DAY 1! I can't even do all my ironing in one day!
So the days go on, five more of them. Oceans were put into place, the earth was dry where it was supposed to be dry, plants and trees were planted and grew. He didn't stop there...He created the seasons, which we know as lasting at least 3 months each, but He created them all in one day!
God did not stop there. He IS perfection, and He kept on until He was satisfied. He did not rest, until the animals and man and woman were created. And once this was all done, He decided that it was all good and it was indeed time to rest.
This was the 7th day, the day God decided to rest. He finished this task He had undertaken, createe a perfect world, with seas, earth, plant-life, animals, humans. He made them all perfect, and man and woman were made in His image.
This 7th day He simply rested. The Word in Genesis 2:3 says, 'Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.'
That equals a week in my book. God took exactly a week, and I would just about bet a buck that if we could have timed Him, He would have clocked out at the exact same time He clocked in to begin this great work, but 7 days later. Yet He included that 7th day, the day we know as the Sabbath.
We have an incredibly on-time God. Along with heaven and earth, and all the creatures plant-life and humans, he also created time. We measure it in hours, days, weeks, months, years. We know His timetable is not the same as ours, but ours is the one He created at the very beginning. So that is the one we are to use.
I say if God can do such amazing things in the space of 7 days, then I can do what He assigns to me in the same time. My tasks will never be perfect, and the timing may be a wee bit off, but if done with His time in mind, and with His perfection on my heart, then 1 week or 2 weeks, it doesn’t matter. I will have done it in His image, in His timeline.
God doesn't expect us to be perfect. He would be quite surprised if we were! He does expect us to give our very best to Him, and to all we minister to in His name. And while that too is an overwhelming thought, when we remember all things are possible with God, and think about what He did for us at the beginning of time...then we can be exactly who He wants and created us to be.
We don't have to be doing everything in one week, or even two. He knows we can't perform in just one week. We are, after all, not the God of the Universe, and yes, He truly did need JUST ONE WEEK! AMEN
