Her first husband passed away,
He left her while she was expecting a little one.
Grandpa came and he swept her away,
He told her," You're gonna be mine someday."
Next thing you know they were hitched and on their way.
They were two people working together,
Trying to raise a family and love one another.
I just thank God for the love they gave to me,
We're a family.
Grandpa knew how to work the land,
He was a carpenter with a farmers' hand.
He got up early and worked til dusk,
While grandma stayed home with the four little tots,
They tried to raise them with some love and dignity,
They'd made a family.
They were two people working together,
They raised a family and loved one another.
I just thank God for the love they gave to me,
We're a family.
Grandpa, he's in a nursing home,
Grandma, she's home alone,
She goes to visit him nearly everyday.
He can't remember the day or his name,
All he knows is he's glad she came.
At times he recognizes her for a little while,
There's something so familiar in her smile.
They were two people working together,
They'd raised their family,
They'd loved one another.
I just thank God for the love they gave to me,
We're a family.
Grandma got sick, I never left her alone,
Grandpa had already made his way home.
As I layed next to her on her bed,
Holding her in my arms as she took her last breath.
I kissed her cheek, layed my head on her breast, stroking her hair,
as she was layed to rest.
I often think of her death that May day,
Oh, how it brings a smile to my face,
Remembering how she died with such grace.
I confess, I do believe in lifes inevitable fate.
They were two people that worked hard together,
They'd raised their family, taught us to love one another.
I just thank God for the love they gave to me,
We're a family.
As they're walking the streets of gold,
There is one thing for sure, and this I do know.
They will be waiting for me, when I come to Heavens door.
Forever a family, where sickness, death and tears are no more.
WE'RE AN ETERNAL FAMILY! NOW AND FOREVER MORE!

I began writing this as a song when I was seventeen. It stopped after the verses that began with: Grandpa knew how to work the land.
When I was in my early twenties, Grandpa went into a nursing home. That is where the next few verses were birthed.
My Grandma got sick and moved in with me in my mid thirties. She went home to be with Jesus in 2006. That was when the rest of the song came together. I can just see Grandpa leading the rest of our family toward Grandma as she entered her Eternal Home.
They meet, hand in hand, they encounter our Saviors' loving arms. They then, begin running and leaping and praising God. No sickness, no tears, no suffering, whole, young and beautiful. Full of life once again.
In rememberance of Joseph and Lula Hinote. The most loving two people in my life!
