Ken started the car, "I just got into my car. I am on my way to pick up your kids."
Becky sounded angry, "I just got a call from daycare; you were supposed to be there by 5:30."
Ken snapped back, "That’s not what you told me. You told me six o'clock."
Becky yelled, "I told you 5:30!"
Ken's voice sounded frustrated, "I listened to your voice mail twice, you said six o'clock."
"I am pretty sure I said 5:30," said Becky.
"Becky, I listened to you voice mail twice. I wouldn't lie to you."
Becky voice calmed down, "Okay, You’ve got to get there fast. I get charged $15 per ten minutes that I am late."
"I will do what I can," as Ken put the car into gear and sped off.
Ken arrived at the day car at about 5:45. Steve and Ann, his niece and nephew, ran to see him, the manager was right on their heels. "Are you the manager?"
"Yes, I am," an old lady with dark curly hair shook Ken's hand.
Ken hugged the kids, "I am the kids' uncle. My sister Becky told me that there was a fine for being late."
The manager held up a clipboard and ran her finger down it. "Yes there is, you sister will be charged $30."
Ken had a frustrated look on his face, "There was a miscommunication between me and my sister. I work at home, If I would have known I had to be here by 5:30, I would have been here on time. I don't want to see her penalized for our miscommunication. Is there anything you can do?"
"I would love to, but the problem is I have to pay people overtime. I just can't do that for everyone that is late."
Ken shook his head in disgust, "Okay, I will pay the $30 for her even though it's neither of our fault."
The lady smiled, "That will be fine, I can take a credit card."
Ken shook his head as he got out his Visa card.
