Life can be delicious I suddenly realize,
As I stroll in the sun past a vendor selling fries.
The noon hour walk should be good for my thighs,
But the beach entices me to my utter demise.
It’s good to relax and soak up some sun,
Life should be less work and heaps of more fun.
“Grrrr, to the work world with it I am done,”
I say as I buy a hot dog and bun.
Followed by the ducks I stroll barefoot in the sand,
The lake beckons to me: knee deep in water I now stand.
Cooled and relaxed, I’m feeling smugly grand,
And I think that I am even a little bit tanned.
Relaxing on the beach I watch the children play,
They are splashing and laughing enjoying the day.
“Grrr to the work world that is what I say,”
Today is a beach day and at the beach I will stay.
Grrr to my conscience whispering in my ear.
Grrr to the nagging guilt destroying the atmosphere.
Grrr to the inner child shedding a tear.
I’m going back to work; that’s sadly clear.
How do I explain it? What will I say?
The devil made me do it, that’s a good cliché.
But I know that’s a lie and I know I should pray,
“Help me Father only truthful words to say.”
I have a problem I say to my boss, Scott,
I’m a whole hour late and sorry I’m not.
I’ll make the time up; I won’t do this a lot,
But the beach is so tempting and the weather’s so hot.
Scott looked at his watch and smiled with his eyes,
I saw you eating those scrumptious fries.
I need more people, who are honest and wise,
Who know when they’re wrong and not to tell lies.
That came out good I think with satisfaction,
But how do I avoid another infraction?
The beach in the summer is such a distraction,
But wait, I’ve got it, a plan of action.
I’ll think of the daily beach walk as a mini vacation.
I’ll soak up the sun and shed all my frustration.
A vacation every day is surely cause for celebration,
But how do I avoid the beach food temptation?
