Knowing as we do that Mother Nature is on a very tight schedule; we wonder each time if this is the last swim of the year or will there be another one?
My family and I got to have a swim just days ago. I am always amazed by this beach I love so much and the Master's hand that changes it every time into another view.
This particular day the sugar white sand was stacked by the bucket loads into a long, deep shelf of earth. The same sand that was stretched out low and flat just weeks before.
The shifting in the sand is one of the first ways we can tell the seasons have begun to change.
As we gleefuuly slid down a patch of sand the warm, salty water teased our toes until we were completely soaked. Even the color of the water enticed laughter from us. It was the color of a crystal clear emerald with swirls of turquiose.
My husband and oldest were walking way out on the edge of a sandbar, and my; little one and I were shuffling through the water to get to them.
I stubbed my toe on something sharp. As I peered through the green glass I saw the shadow of a rather large shell. I thought at first it must be just a piece of a shell because often large ones get broken in the surf.
When I finally got it up out of the water with my toes i was surprised and elated to find I had stumbled over a whole shell.
The youngest and I began to wave to my husband and child to try to tell them what a treasure we found.
A shell about 3 1/2" by 3 1/2" the color of every shade of cream, taupe, and brown; the scallops and lines are precisely carved from tip to tip.
I felt so small holding this masterpiece in an ocean so vast. I can't help but think that the master of the universe pays attention to details. He often sends precious surprises into our lives just for the thrill of it.
I do believe this September swim was the best of the season.

There are just a few punctuation booboos, and you might want to add an extra space between paragraphs, for ease of reading.
I like the simple, alliterative title.
