A team of young evangelists went on a four weeks mission to an African Country with high expectations.
They staged a free-for-all video show, as part of their ministerial strategy and this ran for two weeks. The results wasn’t encouraging but they pressed further unprepared to give up, as they only had little children coming as guests to their programs because the adults couldn’t be bothered about the gospel.
Towards the end of the third week, they decided to go out on evangelical walks. Fortunately the natives of the town could communicate in some English they needn’t bother too much about the local dialect. They divided themselves into two groups in order to cover the whole town within few hours. This was to ascertain the populace was reached then trust God for souls.
Then the unexpected happened!
The first group went westward of the town while the other were to venture eastward with an agreement to meet up in a couple of hours.
The westward team had scarcely entered their district of the town when a scrawny and fetish looking man accosted them.
He shouted boastingly at us saying; “I challenge you to a contest, and he that wins will control the souls in his town”! Straightaway they were gripped with a tangible fear more so with the looks on the faces of the local residents clearly depicting doom at the sight of this man, who they later confirmed was the herbalist.
He continued ranting, “if can you can outwit me at planting this corn seed in your palm like mine which instantly grows into a ready-for-harvest corn plant then everyone in this town will receive your gospel or else, you will be my slaves”!
For the first time in the lives of these young evangelists they found a situation that replicated Goliath’s threat on small David staring them in the eyes. They wanted to make a reverse turn initially, but requested the herbalist (by now they now had a good understanding of who he was) to give them couple of minutes to meet up with their brethren on the east side of town if maybe they’d be ready for the challenge or not.
They called back the eastward team and told them what happened, and sought a solution.
Suddenly, Alex, who had been left out of the evangelism at the camping base because of his “eccentric and no nonsense ministering” style, like Prophet Elijah, remarked thus, “take me to the man”.
The moment Alex sighted the herbalist, he said, “because you have challenged God and tried to hinder his agents from their assignments, I command your magic plant and your hand to wither now, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ! That you may now that God had sent us here for the salvation of this town from the power of darkness”!
The outcome was like a repeat performance of the Battle on the mount of Carmel in the 21st Century!
For fire just appeared physically out of the sky and burnt up both the hand and the corn plant, while the people cringed as they saw the power of God in action.
Instantly, the evangelists didn’t need to convince anyone to surrender their lives to Christ as they were also live witnesses, so five hundred souls turned their lives to Christ.
It follows that God apparently confirms the works of His servants no matter how insignificant and powerless they may look!
