The Lord then sent a prophet to warn him to return to the Lord lest the Lord take away his abundance.
When the prophet was in the presence of the king he said: “Greetings! Listen to the words that the Lord has told me;”
“There was once a king before you, one even greater than you who lived comfortably, in his palace enjoying great riches, so great were his riches that his abundance extended over the whole world, but this king like you was warned not to sin and to do what was right and to be merciful to the poor, then he would continue to have abundance, but he did not heed to the warnings. One day the king was walking about the roof of his royal palace, he said ‘look at the abundance of my kingdom is this not a display of my power and might, a testimony to my glory and might’ no sooner had he said this words when a voice spoke from the heavens, ‘because you believe that your abundance is not from the Lord and of your own making, all that you have is taken away from you from know you shall sow the wind and reap the whirlwind, but when you acknowledge that the Supreme God has power over human kingdoms and abundance and that he can give them to anyone he chooses, all you have shall be restored. After many years had passed the king looked up to the sky and regained his faith in the Lord, he praised the Supreme God and gave him honor and glory and all that he had was restored to him.”
“Why do you think he praised the Lord and all that he had was restored to him your majesty?” the prophet asked
“Because the king realized that in abundance a man can become haughty and forget that it is the Lord who gives abundance to whom he chooses, therefore we should not say I do not need the Lord for I have great abundance, but in abundance we should not sin, we should do what is right and share our abundance with those who face scarcity.”
“Well said” replied the prophet
From that day the king remained faithful to the Supreme God.
