“Hi, um… is anyone sitting here? Or are you all by yourself?” she asked before sitting down.
“No, why would anyone be sitting with me? I’m Dameon, everyone hates me,” he replied appearing rather miffed at her being there.
Angel had a secret gift; she could venture into people’s souls and change them. All she needed was an invitation to touch them. Everyone hates me was her invite. “I’m Angel, and I don’t hate anyone so you’re wrong.” She reached her hand out for a shake.
He took it but when she tried to enter something blocked her. It was like evil had had become a chain and wrapped itself around Dameon. They ate silently. Angel puzzled in her mind as to why Dameon had invited change but he was locking her out. This guy was crying out for love to take him.
For the rest of the week they ate together silently until Dameon asked, “Why do you sit with me? Can’t you see there’s nothing to me?” He sounded frustrated and angry.
“Because God wants me to. That and you seem pretty nice. I love making new friends. Here why don’t you come and meet all of my other friends. If they hate you then I’ll believe you and leave you alone,” she pulled out a card with info about the high school service at her church and handed it to him.
His fingers touched hers and she hardly got through. All she saw was what was trapping him. It was a chain made from abuse and the heavy lock was made of his parent’s words. Angel now knew getting to his soul would be harder than anyone before but she loved a challenge.
At church, the pastor talked about martyrs like Stephen. Dameon listened intently; he was getting something out of it no one else was, something no one else could. After the youth pastor was done talking Dameon pulled Angel to the side. “I know we’re supposed to go to group but we need to talk.”
“Okay, what about?” she said pulling him to a table to sit at.
“Some people have done some awful things to me. I learned never to trust anyone then you came along. There’s something about you that makes you different. At first I thought it was just but I see all over here. I want that difference, how can I be like you?”
“Pray with me,” Angel took is hands and as they prayed for salvation aloud she spoke to his soul.
She broke the chains that bound him and saw his scarred being. She put love, patience, and tolerance into his being. She rebound him with the divine chains of God. These chains were meant to keep evil out, not him in. the lock was of pure love. On “Amen” she exited.
“I feel different already, less hostile. Like someone unlocked who I was meant to be. Thank you so very much!” Dameon said.
