Its like I am walking on the wrong path to my desired destination. And that is not because I don’t know what the right path is but because I just can’t seem to get off the wrong path. I am like the kangaroo, just hopping on and off two different paths with full knowledge that my path leads to a dead end. So, I thought it would be best if God would just take it away, you know, command it to disappear then everything will fall in place.
I wrongly thought that my will was my weakness in my walk with Christ. Something that was making my walk difficult. God sent His Son to die to get me out of everything that could ruin me yet decided to have me still keep my will. This means I might be wrong.
Since the beginning of creation, we have always had the decision to choose between one thing or the other and never forced to do something. Because God in His wisdom and greatness knew that it was the best thing for us. God presented them with information and left them to decide what to do, the devil also presented them with information and then they had to decide what to do. The enemy could have done nothing else if they had decided not to go by his advice. That is how powerful our will is.
So, then my will is not my weakness, but a strength which has been weakened by the fall and sin. My will is like a wheel which is the mechanism designed to produce an output. The problem with the wheel is that you can turn it either way. But the great thing about it is that if you turn it in the right direction, you produce the right output.
Our will, the ability to do what we want is something that is solely under our control. However, when we let go of that, someone else takes control. When my will is set on achieving something, I go all out to get it. And that is where the strength lies. It's like a propellant, an unstoppable push which is why it's so strong. And thus, my will is not going to get in the way of God will if I decide that His will is my will. By doing this I am giving control to the Lord to wielding the wheel in His direction. If we set our will on pleasing the enemy, he also gets on board and draws us in the wrong direction.
I imagined my will as the written will, the legal document which states that a person should receive when he/she is absent. This is solely under the authority of the person, no one else. What he allows someone to have is what the person gets. If he doesn’t ask you to take possession you don’t have anything. So now if we have died with Christ, who have we willed everything to?
Whoever takes possession of your life, which is precious, is whoever you decide to will it to. Is it Christ or you know who?
There is always someone behind the wheel taking control of affairs, its either God or the enemy. Knowing this I don’t want God to take away my will any longer, I want Him to wield it for His glory. The goal still remains intact, I just had to decide and allow God to take control. What is more glorious and a show of strength when you know you can do something but choose not to do it because that would be pleasing to the Lord and you have the power to do so.
