My ears ring with annoyance as the speaker goes on and on with so many words that say nothing. It seems that he is the only one pleased by his meaningless tirade of words. He doesn’t notice that everyone in hearing distance has stopped listening.
My ears delight in my child’s first efforts to tell me something. My babe looks at me with bright eyes as I draw near to encourage more coos and sounds. Babe is trying so hard, and I repeat some of the sounds and look deeply into the earnest eyes. We are communicating.
My ears strain to hear the whisper. My mother is wanting to tell me something before she surrenders to the angels who are so close, waiting to whisk her away to her heavenly home. It is hard to make out her words, but I pray, and I understand.

Great job.
