Her customary smell usually attracted unwanted attention. For the past twelve years, her life had been restricted. She was lonely but she wanted to do this one thing as a normal woman.
As she got closer to the crowds she started to hear the people talking. A local miracle-working Rabbi was in town. She had heard rumors of him. His name was Yeshua. He touched people and healed them. Her heart leaped within her chest.
“Could this be the day that I would stop bleeding?” she wondered.
Judaic laws forbade her from socialising. Not only was she unclean but anything or anyone she touched was unclean including her bed and her chair. She had little money. The doctors’ bills took it all. In every way, she was an outcast from her people. Her bloody discharge had a foul odour.
“A woman like her!” she often overheard people say as she passed by. People turned their backs and probably held their noses she imagined. She kept her head down in shame. She was so thin and she was weak from years of bleeding.
She did not want him to touch her because that would defile him, so a simple plan came to her to sneak into the crowd and touch his clothes.
“I have enough faith for that” she whispered in her despair.
“If I touch the hem of his outer cloak I will be healed” she thought.
In a casual manner using her small frame she wound her way in a nonchalant manner up to where he was walking with his followers. He was at the head of the crowd, so she sneaked in from behind and as gingerly as she could, touched the hem of his outer cloak.
Immediately she knew the twelve-year flow had ceased. He stopped and turned. All the crowd stopped too. Terror reared up its ugly head, quickly followed by an irrepressible quiet joy. Would he be angry and disgusted that she would even dare to ….
Luke 8: 43 - 48 47 And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately. 48 And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.
