I told Alexander and Rufus “stay close boys I do not you want getting lost in the crowd”.
Alex notice in the distance people in the street cheering. Maybe it was a parade or a show. The three of us held on to each other and moved to the front so the boys could see what was going on.
I could not believe what I was seeing, a man so badly beatened he did not look like a man, his ribcage were showing and the crowd was clapping and cheering. Who was this guy and what did he do?
The man could barely walk he was in such bad shape and the authorities were making him carry a big piece of wood it had to weight at lest 75 pounds. I reached for my boy’s hands when one of the guards look at me and said you, carry that wood for him!
I resisted but when he reached for his weapon I knew he meant business. A kindly old lady told me she would watch my boys; I better do what the guard said.
As I reached for the wood our eyes meet that was not easy because his face was so swollen he could barely open his eyes. When I looked into his eyes I could not believe the love and compassion I felt, who was this guy? I was afraid to say anything to him but he said “thank you”. I asked him what’s his name and he said Jesus. I have heard of this guy, what is going on today why was the crowd so happy? When we got to the end of the street the guard said I was free to go.
I franticly looked for my boys and when I found them we got out of town as fast as we could, the boys noticed that there was blood all over my clothes, they said mom would have to wash the blood out.
I told them about Jesus, the love and compassion I saw in his eyes. I cannot put my true feelings into words but I told them there is something special about the blood on my clothes, the blood of Jesus. I will never have these blood stained clothes washed, they will remain a souvenir from the trip when I meet Jesus.
