Sadly, the cares of life got in the way, and you stopped spending time with God. It was easier to drown out life’s sorrows by playing video games or watching TV than it was to ask God to help you find your way.
It’s easy to be a lazy Christian. You’re still witnessing in your own way, by putting a “Honk If You Love Jesus” bumper sticker on your car, or wearing a cross around your neck. Each Sunday you’re in your favorite pew, singing your heart out and saying amen to the pastor’s sermon. All of these actions are important in your Christian walk, but who are you telling about God’s love and forgiveness?
Mark 5 tells us how Jesus restored a demon-possessed man. This man lived in the tombs and no one could control him. All day and night he would cry out and cut himself with stones. When he saw Jesus, he knew things were about to change. For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!” It turned out that there was a legion of demons inside the man, and the demons asked Jesus if he would cast out their spirits into a herd of pigs that were feeding on the hillside.
After the man was rid of his demons, and now in his right mind, he begged to go with Jesus and his disciples. Jesus saw that the man could be a better witness by going home. “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.
What is the best way for you to share the love of God with others? Share your personal testimony. How did you come to know Christ? Most people have a conversion story to which others can relate. You might have come to know God while you were driving, home in bed, in a restaurant, or in a church service. Offer to pray with them, and answer any questions that may arise.
Don’t be a lazy Christian. You don’t know how much time you have to witness until Jesus comes again, so make every day count for the kingdom of God.
