Their intimacy notwithstanding, there was a mystery about Joshua that Nsek did not understand.
One day, the latter visited the former in his house; he met him outside about to ignite a fire to set a heap of loose- leave documents on fire.
"Have you properly separated the essentials from none-essentials so there'll be no regrets over any loss after the exercise?" Nsek asked walking towards him.
"Yes! They are doomed forever. Fire is their final abode." ever-smiling Joshua declared happily and confidently.
"What's the source of these sheets because I can see that they are new and neat?"
"You're right; they contain Christian burdens." Joshua replied.
"What do you mean? "
" Please, wait a minute. Let me do justice to them first; then, I'll explain what they are all about."
He picked a few recalcitrant pieces that were blown away by wind and returned them to the heap. He finally set fire on them. He then moved away drawing Nsek along with him. He was wide-eyed.
As those sheets were wailing and reducing to ashes, Joshua said with increasing joy,
"Now, to answer your question," he turned to face his friend. "They are a heap of christian burdens that are slated for fire."
"Please, expatiate." Nsek pleaded, folding his hands across his chest.
"I never go to bed any day with a strange and dangerous bed fellows."
"Who are they?"
"Burdens!"
"What do you do?" Nsek probed further, spreading both hands towards him.
"The last thing I do daily is to put in writing every burden I had for that day. I do so for My Burden Bearer to read and to take care of them. I always end each with 'for your information and necessary action sir.' I leave everything in his hands. Those papers were of different sizes because burdens for each day are different."
"What prompted and / or encourage you to do this?"
"Early in my Christian life, in a bible class, Matthew 11:28 was explained and since then it stuck to my heart. It reads:
'Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, I'll give you rest.'
So, if Jesus Christ is ready to carry my heavy burdens, I'll give Him light ones also. I go for His total rest."
"I now understand your secret and a mystery about you; I've always wondered, but reluctant to ask you, the reasons for your unceasing joy.
Since I knew you, I've never seen you sad or worried especially with the presence of your boss and his caustic tongue in your office..."
Joshua laughed his heart out , raising his right leg. He said, "I've given his tongue to Jesus in writing, its poison has never entered my ears not to talk of my heart. Others do complain about that but never." Joshua cut in.
"How often do you set burdens on fire?" Nsek probed as he prepared to depart.
"You know today is the last day of the month; and the time is six on the pm side. It marks the end of every burden for this month. If any one springs up before bedtime today, I'll write it down for my Burden Bearer to read on my family altar table until the end of next month for burning."
