The screeching, blaring, buzzing of my alarms sounds at 5:35a.m. I am summoned out of my peaceful slumber to a tense and tired body. I have known no other fatigue like the exhaustion that comes from motherhood. Yet, “ready or not,” a new day dawns. The dependent cries of the beautiful two year old begin before my feet hit the floor and I cringe as I have just missed my opportunity to shower before the needs of the day and of myself begin.
My roles seemed so much more manageable as a mother of two. That was before our little princess made her debut into our family. Now I am inundated with dirty dishes, endless loads of laundry, meals to prepare, heaps of papers ranging from 4th grade homework requirements to middle school sports schedules, all while trying to juggle the individual needs of our three precious children. One of God's greatest blessings in this life has led me to the complete and utter emptying of myself: motherhood.
Often times, this gift has left me feeling hopeless, helpless, broken and beaten down. I am easily brought to the realization that I can do absolutely nothing without Jesus. Time and time again, I fall and I fail, and I realize this dead end drives me right to the feet of Jesus. Motherhood gives me the opportunity to empty myself before Jesus and submit myself to Him. “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I that live, but Christ living in me: and that life which I now live in the flesh I live in faith, the faith which is in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself up for me.” Galatians 2:20 (ASV) I have learned that this crucifying of self must happen daily, hourly, sometimes minute by minute. As I submit my empty, depleted self to His authority and ask Him to fill the desperate places, I am blown away at His willingness to take up residence over my tired body. He breathes life into every crack and crevice of my soul and I am made complete. He ignites my passion and by His grace I am now equipped to be 'Mom'. My God is faithful. He restores, He loves, He fills, He covers, He resurrects...all dead ends.
“I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!” Philippians 3:10-11 (NLT)
