At times when I feel like there is no good end,
Suddenly, without anyone knowing, something restores my hope.
It could be anything, whatever to make my day happy;
A flower stuck in the cement, a smile from a stranger,
A bright moon shining most, out of all the city lights,
A child with no sense of anyone around them, truly enjoying life,
News of good health from my family, a neighbour comes to talk.
These flashes of good make me so happy I am weak from containing myself.
They are much better than the feelings of gloom and sadness I get,
Or the sense of a bad end coming soon, this I don’t like.
I much more look forward to the happiness.
But people try to stop it, I don’t know why.
These are the things I look forward to,
But those who can keep it going, do all they can to not.
The child is restrained to behave like an adult,
The lights of the city are continually improving and stay on longer,
Possibly because of all the people who feel they have to work harder,
Harder enough to hide from their families; this saddens me.
The flowers, they are stomped and trampled on or torn from their home,
Some people seem to think cement is more beautiful than the plants I love.
And my friends who have always said hi to me, they have been rushed on by the crowd.
Or, I have heard they have ignored me because of my condition.
My friends, these have saddened me more; I thought they had hearts.
Yes, yes there is more for me to find flashes of happiness from,
But I am growing tired of looking, I look for everything else I need;
I have seen all parts of this city, looking for stuff to live on.
Happiness, just like it used to more often, should not be looked for,
but found, without effort, in the midst of the everyday jobs.
Why must people take all that away from me?
The world is becoming a lonely place.
