It’s funny how the seasons of life change us. As we grow older our experience enlarges, our knowledge of the world increases, and our feelings toward others change, in some folks for the better, in others for the worst.
The Bible talks often about seasons, and it tells us in Colossians 1:17* that, “(Jesus) is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” So when it says in Psalm 104:19 that, “The moon marks off the season, and the sun knows when to go down” I know that is Christ who is in charge of the seasons of this world, and it is He who ...“will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands.” (Deuteronomy 28:12)
In that earlier season of my life, I know that God was watching over me. He sent the Patriot missile to shoot down those Scud missiles sent by Saddam Hussein. In this latter season in my life, I have come to realize that I need Jesus to shoot down the other Scud missiles sent across my life by Satan. Jesus has promised that He will answer every call for help and “never will He leave me; never will He forsake me.” (Hebrews 13:5).
Just as the seasons of the year change, the seasons of our lives change. Jesus has designed it this way because He knows we need change. Our hair changes to silver and gray, our priorities change from fun times to financial stability and retirement, our children change and grow up then move out on their own.
Yes, seasons come and seasons go. In each season of life we need the refreshing rain that comes down from the God of the heavens and who controls each season. The more we call on Him, the more we pray, the more we study His word, the more cleansing rain He has promised to send us.
So, who's in control of your seasons?
