If only Becky hadn't of droned on about her baldheaded granddaughter I could have shared my goodies. Becky was one of my best work friends, as was Mary and Catherine. My name is Gail and my work friends and I tried to meet once a week to exchange what's been happening to us since the last we met. Since Becky had found out she was going to be a grandmother, she had spent nearly half an hour showing us pictures and telling stories about her then 8-month-old granddaughter. I'm sure some of the pictures she showed this week were duplicates from the weeks before. We only had one hour for lunch and when you add in elevator time her half hour left me no time to share my goodies.
We tried to meet every week on Wednesday at a sidewalk café near work. The food was always excellent and as good Christians we always said a prayer before the meal and at the end we hugged and issued a blessing that God will keep our loved ones and us safe till we meet again. Even though experienced chiefs prepared the food lovingly we'd sometimes bring bags of our goodies to share. We would collect the goodies throughout the week and wrapped them ever so carefully and practiced what words we would say to present the goodies to our friends. We keep these goodies in our hearts so no one can guess what they are before we are ready to reveal their sweet juiciness. I was very upset that I couldn't let my goody out of it's bag. Mary, Catherine and I had discussed, behind Becky's back, how frustrated we were getting about her taking up all the time with her grandbaby stuff. It was decided that someone should talk to her about it. But no one did.
Since no one spoke to Becky and I didn't have time to release the goody from my heart, I was miserable and up set for the rest of the afternoon. At about 3 pm Becky stuck her head in my office and asked how I was doing? My response didn't sound, look or feel like a Christian reaction. I began by blaming Becky for how bad I felt and then continued to open my goody package all wrapped nice and neat and stored in my heart. The package had grown in size and felled my heart with darkness. There was no room for Christian love for Becky or anyone else, not even me. As this was years ago I don't remember the contents of the goody package but it was gossip. Lucky for me, Becky didn't have a goody package in her heart because there was only love for her granddaughter and the rest of her family but the greatest love of all Becky had in her heart was the love of God. Becky came into my office, shut the door and hugged me. Then she asked if I would pray with her. We prayed that the Holy Ghost would fill my heart and clean it of all gossip. Since that day during my morning devotions I include a special pray for God to allow the Holly Ghost to keep my mind and heart clean of gossip.
I shared the experience with Mary and Catherine and we all asked for Becky's forgiveness for talking behind her back. Becky replied, "I forgive you!"
As time has moved on we do not work for the same company and many miles separate us. We still ask God to allow the Holy Ghost to keep our minds, hearts and bodies clean of gossip.
