We fell in love during the winter and so many nights we stood outside not wanting to leave each other. I remember the night sky, dark but pierced with millions of tiny holes, the stars. Those stars were silvery green and oh! so magical against the not quite black backdrop of the winter sky.
In summer it is quite a different colour, dusky dark navy blue a warm colour instead of the cold of the frosty winter sky and the stars are friendly, close to the earth when you feel that you could almost touch them. Yes, when you’re in love even the night time has colour.
Spring that year was breathtaking. I’d never seen such beautiful colours in the hedgerows and on the road sides; spring flowers were everywhere and I was awestruck at their variety. Summer was special too, full of warmth. The beech forest was beautiful and the rata trees flowered. Most of the time you hardly notice them but every so often you get a year where the blooming is spectacular. They flowered for us that year.
The autumn came and with it our wedding. White, cream and blue and the red of the church carpet, the guests in so many different colours; the choirboys in rich red and white surplices, the grey of the building and the green trees outside. We’ve never once regretted that day; it was over thirty years ago now but the colour of love remains.
