His eyes were brown, like velvet were they,
And I wept with joy, as He blinked in the hay.
A mother’s heart beat strong in my chest,
As I lifted His form against my breast.
His eyes were brown with a gentle glow,
That calmed my soul, oh He had to know-
That I was unclean, a leprous crone,
But he touched my sores like I was his own.
His eyes were brown and they laughed at me,
As He called me out of that big old tree,
“To your home I’ll come with you today,
So get on down, we’ll be on our way!”
His eyes were brown and He looked right through
My soul, and my past He surely knew,
But I felt His mercy as I bathed His feet,
Unworthy was I, yet now, complete.
His eyes were brown and I glimpsed a tear,
As I called to Him and He came near,
“Get up and walk” and He said my name,
Then I picked up my mat, no longer lame.
His eyes were brown, or so I’d been told,
But I didn’t yet know my greens from my gold,
So on that bright day when He gave me sight,
Much more than just colour, I’d now seen the Light.
His eyes were brown and they seemed to plead,
That I'd stay with Him and intercede,
But in the garden I let Him down,
No comfort I gave, no company He found.
His eyes were brown but He barely could see,
As He carried that cross up Mount Calvary,
From that tree did He hang, now His gaze clear on me,
Those eyes met my soul so I could be free.
His eyes were part of our Father’s Plan,
Reaching through time to the hearts of man,
Yes, God’s Only Son, true victory has He,
Our Lord and Redeemer, forever shall be!
