I tried them on and the fit was perfect. The creamy yellow brought out my blue eyes everyone told me. It made me feel beautiful. I wore it in confidence and often! But the sweater didn’t change my popularity at school. All the seats were still “saved” for someone else when I got on the bus. I was a timid girl and they took advantage of it.
But one day God gave me a “yellow mohair sweater” for my heart…an unexpected beautiful gift. I was on the bus turned towards the window, tears in my eyes from the teasing and the gnawing doubt I might not be saved. I asked Him if He loved me, seemed no one else did. He took the finger He carved the Ten Commandments with and wrote a note on my heart. He told me He loved me so much it was as if I was His favorite. And He wore my smile around His neck. He said I had a cheerful, yellow, soft heart.
I couldn’t have received a more perfect gift. A yellow sweater to make my appearance bright and a loving word from God to make my spirit beautiful, a temporary gift that certainly no longer fits and an eternal gift “written on the tablet of a human heart.”
Through the years my problems have grown up. I’m an aunt who worries. Who will take care of my family? Who will keep them from harm? Who will teach them right from wrong? Again the finger that carved the Ten Commandments in the stone tablets writes on my heart, “Be still, Love, and know that I AM.”
Through the ages there have been many, and maybe you have experienced “yellow sweaters” from God. He still speaks with that powerful and tender finger as He told Moses the second time He wrote the Ten Commandments. “…The Lord! The Lord! A God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and truth…” (Exodus 34:6 Amplified)

That is a beautiful description of God's love for each one of us! He loves us as individuals. You described it in a PERFECT way. I love that sentence about wearing our smiles around His neck--ah, so lovely!
