My heart beat with yours.
I knew the sounds of your voice,
The songs you sang to put me to sleep,
Your cries when you thought no one could hear you.
But I was with you,
Laughing and crying with you,
You gave me a name when we finally met,
A name God already knew and perhaps
Whispered into your ear.
I watched and memorized your face.
I felt the soft skin of your cheek against mine,
Your hair tickling my nose.
Your voice was the same, and
Your touch was so gentle and warm.
You held my hands in yours and cuddled me in your arms.
I was always safe with you.
You may think I do not remember these things now,
But I do.
No matter how old I am, no matter where I am,
I will never forget that
I am your child
