Regally she moved on softly through time, towards the twilight years.
Hardly did she realise they waited eagerly to embrace and console her. Gradually the cycle of time had changed once more. Fleetingly she looked back and recalled herself as a fresh faced innocent girl. She had walked her church aisle on her fathers arm, to be joined in matrimony to her beloved.
Learning the art of mothering, she was able to nurture and help in the guidance of their growing children. In the quiet darkness of the night, her listening ear was comfort and reassurance to her husband on his loss of a desired promotion. Years of waiting patiently for a grown child to return from a date. Down on her knees in prayer petitioning for a sick parent in the last stages of terminal illness. The memories of gladness and joy and the ones of deep regret would forever plague her thoughts. From deep within the crevasses of her mind, Linda could pluck a memory and reminisce on days of laughter and dreams gone by.
The doors of life, closing on one chapter and opening on another. The hardest one to accept was the family nest emptying. Yet, with a gladdened heart she rejoiced that all her chicks had a close personal walk with a blessed Saviour.
Linda kept to her habit of arising early at pre dawn light. This was the best time of the day and a time when she could sit in the silent presence of her creator and wait on what His word gave her especially for the day. It was a time when listening to the sweet song of a solo bird; she was reminded that the first harmony was sung by the birds. Yes, the positive fact of the twilight years was that they offered time.
A time to glimpse the eternal morning star. To see it hang like a single diamond twinkling unaccompanied in the glorious Universe.
Unmeasured time to give freely of herself to others. Then gifted time to recognise and accept priceless gifts of hope, faith and gratitude from above. .
There was time to see, not only with her eyes, but also, from the twilight wisdom of her heart..
