I’ve seen man exploit man
As has been and will be again
Whether a man robs a bank
Or a bank robs a man
And for what, a little money or a lot
To live high and quick
Or low and slow
Why look’e there in the ditch
Someone’s lost part of a shoe
Or is just their neglected soul
Someday I’m not gonna have to hock this diamond ring
To provide a little to those I love to love, the little ones
Must be strong and keen, try to learn, keep the faith
Keep moving at a steady pace, knowing
Someone unmoved as moved me so
I listen to the old tunes
Johnny’s ring of fire, then
Listening to that phone ring
With a debt I just can’t pay
I sigh and take solace in a tasty bite
That takes me back to my momma’s table
Long gone, but remembered in smell and taste
Making happy pictures in my head
Of Easter hams and deviled eggs
This nightmare I’ve made will someday end
Until then I’ll better my ways
Living for the Holy King,
His grace having blessed and forgiven me
The critic’s sting,
The praise, the glory,
The guilt, the past
I lay it all at the feet of my King
Until these rings
Some high, some low
They finally end
When my King returns for me
