The gnarled, clammy hand of loneliness threatened to snatch out and drag me into her bosom.
Our sons were all grown up and married. In search of a new challenge, I had quit my fulltime job. My husband was away for the month helping our oldest son and his family remodel their home. They lived a twelve-hour drive away, so it would be a while before I felt his embrace again.
It had been a beautiful June day, unseasonably warm. Spring flowers were on their way “out” and the promising buds of summer blooms were fat and ready to burst forth.
The quiet hush of evening hours are often comforting, but this night seemed…different – too quiet.
And that is when I noticed the box of last season’s Christmas cards beside me on the end table. It’s our family’s tradition to keep them accessible all year.
Randomly I chose one from the pile.
“May your season be filled with sweet peace, simple joy, and God’s amazing love.”
Wow! Thank you, God, for this “season” you are allowing in my life right now. Thank you for family and friends and the encouragement you often offer through them. Thank you for your grace and love.
