her - and she knew it.
Eventually, she grew tired of how meaningless her existence seemed. She noticed a flyer on a bulletin board about a student led Bible study group. She knew her grandmother would approve, so she decided to give it a try. She became a Christian a few months later, changed schools, and lost touch with the old crowd.
Fast forward five years. Allison had become a different person. She was no longer the self-centered, shallow, (even reckless at times), party girl she had once been. She was now very active in her church. God had led her to teach the college girls Sunday school class. She had grown to love these girls, and they loved Allison. They prayed together, laughed and cried together, supported one another. She was very open and honest with them about her past, and she knew these girls were struggling with the same things. She felt particularly drawn to a girl in the class named Micah. Of all the girls, Micah was struggling the most. Allison was the only person in her life that this girl could count on. Micah once said she could see the light of Jesus shining through Allison, and she was very close to accepting Him as her savior
“I’ll just meet Melanie and the girls for an hour,” Allison thought. “I’ll stop in, say hello, and before I leave, I’ll tell them how my life has changed.” “I’ll be that light Micah always says I am.” She walked into the dimly lit, smoky room and the “divas” immediately squealed and ran over to hug her. Before Allison could say a word, a round of drinks was sent over to their table from a group of guys seated at the bar.
The topic of discussion immediately took a turn for the worse; the lyrics of the song blaring in her ears were such that she was utterly ashamed, and Allison suddenly knew she had made a horrible mistake by coming to this place, no matter what her intentions. Just then, she looked up and saw a familiar face. “Oh no. . . Micah’s mother!” “This is the bar where Micah’s mother works!” Micah had come to Allison many times with tears in her eyes telling her of the pain that place had caused her family. “Mom always hangs around after work and has a little too much to drink, and I have to go to that disgusting place to pick her up.” Micah had confided in her last week. “That’s it; I have to get out of here now.” Allison quickly grabbed her purse, made her way to the entrance, and ran right into a young girl in the doorway. “Micah, wait” Allison called. Micah turned and ran out into the dark night with tears streaming down her face. The night seemed darker than ever without her light.
