Topic: Christian Baptism (10/18/07)
“This is what happens to those who reject the message of Christ. They enter into a world of torture and torment. The heads of those who decline Christ roll in Hell. Do you want this to be you? If not then as we sing this hymn make your way to the front and make the choice to give your life to Christ, and tonight you will be saved from the fate that fell upon Goliath.”
Without hesitation Bryce sped down the aisle.
“Hallelujah,” The revivalist exclaimed. Let’s get this boy dunked tonight.
They led Bryce to the back and gave him a swimsuit and white robe to change into. It was rather strange for him. He just wanted to save his head, he wasn’t sure what a robe and swimsuit had to do with it. The pastor came back and gave him a handkerchief, and told Bryce to hold on to it. Bryce held it close and the moisture from his hands made it damp. As the pastor left Bryce was guided to a staircase behind the stage. As he climbed his way up he heard the water swishing around as the pastor waded in. He was curious now, he really wasn’t fond of bathes and he had styled his hair especially nice tonight, he didn’t want to mess it up. As he stood on the cusp of the baptistry standing above the half submerged revivalist he felt trapped. The revivalist spoke his words and was now waving him into the water.
“Good,” Bryce thought to himself, just up to my waist. The revivalist voice became muffled as he raised his hand and proclaimed something that echoed off the water. He took the handkerchief and placed it over Bryce’s mouth.
“Wait,” Bryce said. But his voice was muffled by the white rag. With pressure on the back of his neck and mouth Bryce felt the brute revivalist jerk his head backwards and into the water. As he came up he gasped and heard the words.
“Raised to walk in newness of life.”
Catching his breath he realized that he liked this life pretty well as it was. He rubbed his dripping hair. It was ruined.
