In John, Jesus said He didn't come on His Own Will, but on His Father's. Imagine what a conversation in Heaven would've been like the day of the Fall...
Dad just came back from the Earth, and He was looking quite upset. "Well, Son, I went down to Eden to see Our Creation."
Jesus answered, "Oh, yeah? Did it go well?"
Dad sighed. "No, the serpent deceived the woman that the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil was O.K. to eat. She ate some, then gave it to the man."
"Surely, he didn't eat any," Jesus replied. "He knows what the consequences are; eternal death in the entire universe."
Dad's sadness is very great, and He replied with great effort, "Unfortunately, he did. He did it because he didn't want only the woman to be cursed. He loves her too much for that. Now I'll never have the same whole, unbroken relationship with my Creation again."
"Mmm," is all Jesus can manage to say. He had never seen Dad like this before, He didn't know what to do or say.
Dad was thoughtful for a long time. Finally He said, "There has to be a sacrifice. A once-for-all sacrifice."
Trying to be helpful, Jesus replied, "We could use pure lambs, rams, doves, you know, things like that."
"No," Dad answered. "That wouldn't pay for the full extent of what's happened; that wouldn't appease Me. I need something more personal... Like a person; someone like... You."
Jesus was a little surprised at the suddenness. "Me, Dad?"
Suddenly, Dad was excited. "Yes, would You be willing to lay down Your life for Our Creation?"
"Dad, I'll do whatever Your Will is that makes You happy," Jesus replied, not wanting to ever see His Father like this again.
Dad got serious. "You know that this means You have to become Our Creation, live the way Our Creation lives, and feel like Our Creation?"
"Yes, I have to become one of them."
Dad became quiet again, knowing that's not all He'd have to go through. "But... Son, You also have to die the death of a criminal even though You've done nothing wrong. You'll be rejected, tried, accused, refused and betrayed."
This time Jesus got quiet. There were tears in His eyes as He replied, "Dad, I'd do it for You. For them. It scares Me, but My Will is to do Your Will. I won't let You down, Dad. I promise."
