“I’m going on a mission.”
“Oh, where to?”
“To the east side of the town.”
“Oh, that’s a long way to go! It will take days. You will be near the end of your life!”
“That’s ok. I believe I was created for this purpose.”
“Oh, how so?”
“Well, as I was told. This mission is to teach someone a lesson, because he didn’t want to go to his mission. That’s why I have to go now.”
“That’s not fair! Why, I would be mad if that’s the purpose of my life, to teach a stubborn man a lesson.”
“I hope that man would be happy that I am giving my life for his purpose. I hope he really learn his lesson well.”
“True, but I sure wouldn’t want to be you. Life is short, I got to live my life down to earth. So, with that said, all the best to you. I got to go now, it’s getting too dusty and sunny here. I don’t want to be dehydrated.”
Three days later.
“Man! I was such a young lad when I started, now just look at me, I’m all wrinkled. Where is that place that I’m suppose to go?”
“I’m so angry! I’m so angry I rather die!”
“Oh, must be that way. That man’s been complaining all night long. What is wrong with him? Let me try to call him. HEY YOU, QUIT IT ALREADY!” Willy waited, “he didn’t hear me. Oh well, I guess I’ll just do what I came all the way here to do. I still have some strength in me, and what a mission, all I have to do is climb and eat.”
And for hours Willy climbed and ate until the sun came up.
“I did good, and am so full.”
“I’m so angry! I’m so angry it would be better for me to die than to live!”
“Oh, I think what I did made him even more mad. Hey! Stop complaining already! I’m only doing this because God told me to. This is to teach you a lesson pal. If you hadn’t run away and did what He told you to in the beginning, I wouldn’t have to spend my entire life coming here to destroy this vine!” Willy waited for a respond, “of course, he couldn’t hear me. Well, my job is done, and I am old. I hope my Maker is pleased with my work. And the rest it’s between Jonah and my Maker.”
Willy stretched his plump belly and wriggled down the withered gourd, then thought to himself, “ he really didn’t have a right to be angry.”
