CONTROL ANGER – Mom told me that I need to restrain my natural tendency to get angry. She warned me that it wasn’t a good characteristic trait to possess and that it may come back to bite me. That is a lesson I had to learn the hard way, but she was right and today I handle it much better as does my family. KEEP NO RECORD OF WRONGS – many people say, “I won’t forget that, and I will get even.” She never agreed with that way of thinking and taught me not to fall into that trap. I may have an excellent memory and find it hard to forget, but I was told it is very important to find it very easy to forgive. To totally forgive is easier when I don’t keep a list of wrongs done to me. Always TELL THE TRUTH – this is an integrity issue. Know the difference between right and wrong or telling the truth versus a lie and then do what is right, regardless of the consequences. Then others will respect and trust you more. Mom has always PROTECTED, TRUSTED and HAD HOPES FOR me. She always PERSEVERED for me. Thanks Mom.
As I now look at God’s Word and consider the famous “Love” chapter that he gave us in I Corinthians 13, I see an awful lot of similarities between His love for me and her love shown to me. (verses 4-8) You could have read that chapter to me everyday, but instead you chose to live it as an example to me. Thank you. Happy Mothers Day! (Sure, it happens May 8th according to this year’s calendar, but I appreciate you everyday of each year in my heart.)
