She wanted to be a policewoman when she grew up.
Her mother said her dream was not a good one. Suzy might get shot with a gun when she went after the bad guys.
But, Suzy also had a lot of faith in God. She always answered her mom, "God won't let that happen"
One day when Suzy was pretending to be a policewoman, she actually saw a crime being committed. Two of her friends were stealing candy from the store that was on the corner.
At first Suzy was really excited. This is my chance to do some police work. I can report this crime to the store-owner.
As she walked to the front of the store to "report her friends", she suddenly stopped in her tracks and thought, "but these are my friends, what if they have to go to jail"
She thought a minute, "what they are doing is wrong, and it is against the law, but I just can't let them go to jail."
Suzy went home sad, not saying anything to the store owner. She told her mother what had happened. Her mother said, "Suzy you wanted to be a policewoman, but, if you ever are one, you won't have to worry just about getting shot, you will also have to always do the right thing, even if it involves family or friends"
Suzy thought about this a long time. She finally decided to go see her friends and tell them she was going to report them to the store owner where they had taken the candy.
Her friends begged her to not tell, as they knew they would have to go to jail.
Suzy, thought a minute, and then said, "maybe if you come with me and tell the store owner yourself, maybe he won't put you in jail."
Her friends didn't like that idea either, but agreed that it was their best chance of staying out of jail.
When the three girls got to the store, there was a police car sitting outside.
"They've come to take us away to jail" her two friends cried. We can't run away now, said, Suzy, you must go in and confess what you've done.
Reluctantly, the three went inside and told the store owner and the policeman what they had done.
The storeowner with the policeman's agreement, said if the girl's would pay double for the candy they took, they wouldn't have to "go to jail".
The policeman thanked Suzy for her good police work in "getting a confession" from her friends.
Suzy's friends, also thanked her for keeping them "out of jail" and said they were never going to steal anything ever again.
