TITLE WHO CAN READ WHAT IS ON MY WALL?
Over many centuries we have used reading as a means of communication. The written symbols of each language and dialect vary from place to place and from culture to culture. There are some tribal groups that have only oral language but no written language. By and large reading and writing is universal, every child is taught to read and write from preschool. The art of reading is taught during the years both in school and college, the ones that excel will always be good readers. They will read with understanding and good comprehension. The department of education is now spending millions of dollars to increase our literacy rate among adults, who did not get an opportunity to attend school as children. Reading and writing are so vital in our present economy that everyone needs to be good at it to succeed.
The newspapers, magazines, books and junk mail are all available because people have used their reading and writing skills. Some of the articles are very informative while others are educational. There will always be stuff that we do not like or agree with but there is always enough of the nice writings to read. Some writers are very creative and interesting, once you start reading their writing you do not want to put it down till you finish. Some individuals are able to write vivid descriptions of places, scenes, people and events that when you read you feel you are there with them. Authors, journalists and poets make good money with their writing abilities because people like to read . Reading gives us not only facts and figures but we can also understand the emotions, attitudes, aspirations and a lot of other philosophical things from the written pages.
In the Bible we have a very interesting record of a King who saw handwriting on the wall but could not read it, during one of his banquets. Daniel chapter 5, gives all the details, do take time to read it. The King saw the writing but did not understand the meaning of the message. The wise men of his kingdom were asked to help but were baffled and confused. Finally Daniel came and with wisdom from the Lord read the words and told the King the interpretation. It is a sad story but King Belshazzar disobeyed God and had to be punished like his father King Nebuchadnazzar. God in mysterious ways always gives us warnings and opportunities to confess our shortcomings and failures. We need to be sensitive to His voice and guidance.
Daniel had to come to read and interpret the Lord’s message to the King. Now we have the Holy Spirit that indwells us, who will reveal God’s will for us. When you read the Bible depend on the Holy Spirit to interpret difficult portions to you. Are we allowing the Lord to lead us? Do we hear His voice saying, “This is the way-------?”
Should there be a message on our wall before we realize our shortcomings?
