We each know there at times when writing does not come easy. We struggle, reaching inside ourselves for the words needed to reach those who will read our article, book or story. Three years ago, I was asked to write a short article each week for my church bulletin. I was left in amazement. What would I write about? Who would read the article? Would anyone care what I thought or wrote? Certainly, there were others more qualified than I was who held a deeper understanding of scripture which was needed to write the weekly articles.
Word by word and sentence by sentence led me to three years of writing devotional articles for the bulletin. I now look forward to the challenge each new week brings. I try and capture the attention of my fellow parishioners, thereby drawing them closer to their loving God.
Over the course of three years, a person can learn much - about their faith, themselves and most importantly, about God. Each week, I try to let the Holy Spirit direct me in my writing. Since beginning these weekly articles, I have come to love Eucharistic Adoration. It is here that I sit quietly and completely at ease before Jesus, truly present before me. There are times when I feel empty. However, I have found that when I pray and wait patiently, He always lets me know His will. As the pen moves across the paper, I know they are not my words, but His words; I could never inspire people as He does.
When we write to praise God and give Him honor and glory, our life is fulfilled in a way we never could have expected. The journey of life is not an easy one; we need all the help we can get. God works through each one of us in order that our world will become a better place in which to live. He asks us to be His instrument - to obey His will - to touch someone’s life with our words and our love.
