When I was lost I called out to You
and You stretched out Your arms for me.
You lit my path with Your light and You helped me see.
So I came to You;
Yes, I had it all, but I was such a fool.
I wasn’t satisfied,
so in my selfishness, I left You behind.
Then one day I came to my senses,
But I was sure You’d turn me away after all I’d done.
I must admit, I felt a lot like the prodigal son.
But what else could I do?
I humbly came back to You and I cried at Your feet.
When my tears had cleared I looked up at You,
So sure You’d be angry with me,
But to my surprise,
With nothing other than love in Your eyes,
You stretched out Your arms for me.
Sometimes I wonder how You can continue to love me like You do.
If I ever start to wander
You gently call me back to You.
When I stray from Your plan You always give me another chance,
sometimes before I even ask.
No matter what I do You seem to forgive me so easily,
And You always stretch out Your arms for me.
Time and time again
You forgive me of my sin.
And even though I’m unworthy,
You continue to stretch out Your arms for me.
You’ve never thought twice about taking me back.
Somehow it seems love for me is something You do not lack.
You call me as Your very own,
My Lord, so much love and mercy to me You’ve shown.
I don’t know how it could possibly be,
but even when I’m at my worst,
You stretch out Your arms for me.
When it gets to dark for me to see
You shine Your light and You stretch out Your arms for me.
When I pray forgiveness at Your feet
You show Your mercy and You stretch out Your arms for me.
Your Word tells me that I am free
Because You took my place on the cross
when You stretch out Your arms for me.
You, the King of all Kings,
You, the Maker and Creator of everything,
You, the breath of all life, the Beginning and the End,
You who holds time and all things within Your hands,
You willingly laid down Your life when You stretched out Your arms for me.
Just so I could be forever by Your side,
You took the place that was rightfully mine.
Even though You knew what the price for taking my place would be
You never thought twice about stretching out Your arms for me.
