WHO I AM
by Leah Garhovd
When asked to describe who I am,
I can do it best
by comparing myself
to fellow travelers from centuries ago.
Like Job
my closest friends brought words of guilt
and not compassion.
I too cursed the day that I was born
but, kept my faith.
Like David
I tried, failed, repented, paid the penalty of sin
and tried again.
Like Sarai
I laughed at the impossibilities
of His plan for me.
Then, I waited, blundered and waited some more.
Like Moses
I argued, complained and fought with God
over the people I had to bear
then continued on the journey.
Like Jeremiah
I responded to a voice I did not know
till I learned how to listen.
Then, received the strength and words to begin a work.
Like Thomas
I doubted it was Jesus
in whose presence I had stood,
Until He revealed Himself to me.
And finally,
Like Noah
I did what I was told and got in the ark
to ride out the storm.
Many things happened between the time
I set foot in that boat and the sun shone again.
