“Look at how we have encaged the little ones of our enemy the Most High. Isn’t it delicious to watch?â€
The Master Dragon wrung his hands as drool slipped from the corners of his mouth. He looked as though he was ready for the main course of a holiday meal.
“Can you smell that? It is pride, greed and fear smoldering in the hearts of lost souls,†the Master Dragon sneered.
“But Master, why are there are no doors on their cages?â€
“Yes, indeed my little protégé, there are no doors and it is true that by speaking just one name they could have their freedom.â€
“But why do they stay if they have freedom?†questioned the minion.
“Ahhh, my loyal minion, that is why you are here. You will be learning the craftiness of whispering doubt and deception into their ears. It doesn’t take much really; just a constant talking in circles so they can’t hear the voice of the Most High. Because of this exquisite cunningness they do not claim their freedom.â€
The Master Dragon and his loyal minion began to slither down the long corridor with open cages on each side. In the cages contained the creation of the Most High; some were pacing nervously back and forth, and some were just sitting on the floor rocking to and fro. All remained in their open cages.
After several minutes of amusing himself with their captivity, the Master Dragon turned to the minion.
“Have you prepared yourself by reading the precepts of our enemy the Most High? It is important you know them so you can use them against His creation.†The minion could feel the hot breath of the Master Dragon on his face.
“Of course we never speak the true meaning of His words, but by emphasizing an unimportant word here or there or leaving a word or two out we can deceive them of their true meaning.†The Master Dragon laughed eerily.
“Yes, my Master. I have read it.†The minion nodded his head.
“Well, do you remember the account of the first of the enemy’s creation? The woman’s desire for the fruit was greater than her knowledge of the consequences. ‘Surely, you will not die,’ was all I needed to say. Hahahahaha!â€
“Look, in this cage we have a man who stood open to us out of his grief for the loss of his spouse. In his grief we were able to convince this poor soul that all his sadness and physical pain could be relieved by a simple pill. Once he felt the instant relief of his pain he was hooked. Instead of going to his Most High for healing and comfort, he now relies on pills prescribed by a doctor to get him through the day, and most days those pills just send him back to bed.†Another rolling laugh echoed down the long corridor.
Both the minion and the Master Dragon watched as the man placed pill after pill into his mouth.
“If he begins to feel the slightest hope, we just whisper more doubt mixed with a suggestion of more physical pain and he is off to his new god, the doctor, for another prescription. I believe he is up to twelve different pills now for a myriad of contrived illnesses.â€
The two continued to walk down the corridor stopping to taunt and find pleasure in the captives self inflicted chains.
“And this one is held by fear, and this one by desires of the flesh, and this one by greed…†the Master Dragon’s voice began to trail off as the minion focused on one human several cages up from where they were. As they walked closer the minion could see a woman who was in a different position.
“Master, what is this creation….â€
Before the minion could finish his sentence he began to hear a rumbling and the ground began to shake. He turned to the Master Dragon. The Master Dragon no longer looked amused but enraged.
“Nooo!†the Master Dragon yelled as smoke and stench like sulfur rolled from his snout.
Through the rumbling noise and the screams of the Master Dragon, the minion heard the soft voice of the woman saying, “in the name of Jesus I pray.†The woman rose from her knees and walked out of her cage.
“No one is like you, O Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power.†Jeremiah 10:6 (NIV)
