When assailed by the smut of evil
When it sticks to your clothes
And colours all things grey
When hands -- soiled from rescuing something precious
From sinking in the quicksand of black blame
And angry contempt --
Just won't wash clean
Remember His love
Remember the Cross
Remember His blood.
See his bruised and battered body
Not just seared, but smeared
With all the excrement of evil
Stinking in the nostrils of God
An offering for His wrath
That it might be consumed once and for all
"It is finished"
Now, bathed in His love you are white; you are pure
Let Him wash you, my jewel, with His eyes that see no stains
Let Him wash you with a love that sees you pure
Let Him wash you in the river of His delight
In knowing your heart, in knowing your love.
You are His princess
