My Tongue Has Wrought Against Thee
My tongue has wrought against thee
My dear and precious Lord
Perplexed is where You find me
And vexed all the more.
To be Thy servant, my faithful friend
Just to be ferant, I can't compass
Tis a wicked nature to want to rend
The gifts You've given for me to grasp.
My tongue has wrought against thee
My words have brought thee shame
I am known now for blasphemy
for that I am to blame.
Tis a great burden to carry a cross
This is a great grievance to have to bear
For humble words I'm at a loss
and am caught in this harmful snare.
My tongue has wrought against thee
These tears can't be erased
This bitterness has swollowed me
For that I'm to be chaste.
Oh, what a selfish thing it is
To think that I know best
Oh, what a crime of foolishness
To fail at such a test.
I've kindled slanderous leasing
more than I can afford
My tongue has wrought against thee
My dear and precious Lord.
