Do we see our loved ones that have gone before us on their death bed?
“But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.†(1Cor. 2:9) ESV.
Since the years when I was a young teenager, I wondered what we see before death. I know that my grandfather saw a bright light hours before he crossed over to glory. I am not sure if he saw his family members who had gone before him because he did not mention them. Seeing a bright light he must have seen heavenly figures such as angels or did he see Jesus? No one really knows for sure.
When my daughter died, I questioned if she saw Jesus coming for her? She had gone to the bottom of her bed and appeared to be looking up at someone that stood in her doorway. I believe that she was looking for Jesus to come for her several months before she died. She had coded in the hospital and seemed very unhappy with life here after that day.
A week before Cyndy died, she was not interested in her Christmas gifts as if there was going to be no reason for her to enjoy them. On Christmas Eve, Cyndy took me outside with her for a walk. The two of us arrived at the end of the road when she stopped, looked up and pointed to the sky while trying to verbalize something. In I believe she was telling me she was going up there within the next week.
It was several years later after Cyndy passing when my father in law was about to die when I experienced a situation that made me question about seeing our passed on loved ones before we die. While in the ICU and struggling to stay alive, my father in -law told me to go out in the hall and get Cyndy and bring her into the room. I did not think anything about it because at the time Dad was getting better and it looked as if Dad had overcome his health issue.
I was in the room with him, and the call bell started buzzing and did not stop. No matter what the nurses tried to prevent the call-bell from sounding, the signal kept humming. I teased Dad that he had Casper the Friendly Ghost visiting him. Dad gave me a serious look and shook his head “No†and mouthed “No†and told me it was Cyndy. A few days later Dad took a turn and was about to join Cyndy in Heaven. While in the emergency room Dad kept looking up at the ceiling and pointing to something that I could not see. He would smile and nod his head but whoever was there was not visible to me.
A few years later, while my mother was ill, I had the pleasure of looking after my father for my mother. My Dad and I got into a conversation about death and what happens to us when our time is getting near. I had shared with my Dad that my father-in-law told us that Cyndy was there with him days before he died. I then said to my Dad just maybe Cyndy will be there for you, too.
Almost a week before my Dad died, I had called him to let him know that my youngest daughter was going to be stopping by to see him in about an hour. At the time he called me “Cyndy.†I got upset that he called me Cyndy. Dad went on and said to let him know when Cyndy was calling to come get him so that he could get a bath. Well, a few days later my father had a massive heart attack in the shower and died.
A few years later when my Mother-in-law was about to go to her rewards in Heaven, I leaned down next to her ear and I whispered to her “is she beautiful?†Mom opened her eyes and grabbed my hand and nodded her head “yes.†Mom told several of us family members that my father-in-law had been beckoning her to come with him. At the time she would say to him it was not time yet.
When she did leave, I happen to place my head against her head to see where she was looking when she passed away. She had been looking up into the left corner of the room where she had claimed to see Dad days before.
As we can see, many blessings are waiting for us when it is our time to go home to our Heavenly Father. We are in for a blessing and death is not something we should fear if we belong to the Lord.
