SCENE # 13
(Salome, a young Hebrew girl blind from birth, spent many months in search of the Messiah. Convinced he would restore her sight, if only she could find him... Having heard that Jesus was in Jerusalem, Salome and her father traveled all night. Late the next day they passed near Golgotha on their way into the city.)
(Voice of Salome & Her father are heard as they approach the scene)
SALOME: “Are we getting close Father,
we've been traveling for a very long time.”
FATHER: “Yes Salome, I see a crowd up ahead, maybe He's there!”
SALOME: “I'm so excited - finally I'll meet the Master! Oh father, I'm going to see!”
(Father slows down as he approaches the cross, and sees the body of Jesus hanging there)
SALOME: “Can you see him yet Father? What does He look like?”
(Father stops in front of the cross, leaves Salome and whispers to one of the bystanders)
(Salome appears confused)
SALOME: “What is it Father? What's happening? I don’t hear the people. Is He here?”… (Her voice rises) “FATHER!”
FATHER: (He returns to her side, puts his arms around her and says softly -) ‘Yes Salome, He's here but, Oh Salome! They have crucified our Lord! He is dead.”
SALOME: (thrashes about wildly) “NO! NO! IT’S NOT TRUE! HE CAN’T BE DEAD!”
( stumbles toward the cross and falls at the feet of Jesus crying uncontrollably - suddenly she becomes quiet, stands up and turns around staring at her hands which are covered with blood)
- (Looking up at her Father she speaks very softly) “Father, it's the blood of the Passover Lamb - He has healed me, I can see.”
(Father runs forward crying and hugging his daughter as the focus turns to the soldier who steps forward and says)
SOLDIER: “Surely this Man was the Son of God!”
(Music starts)
