"Better a poor man whose walk is blameless than a rich man whose ways are perverse." (Proverbs 28:06)
One of the signs of a perverted society in biblical times was the inversion of values. One of the prophets denounced the leaders in his time because they had taught the people to call good evil, and evil good. Sad to say we live in such a time ourselves. We tend to celebrate wealth regardless of the source of the wealth, because our society is materialistic. Examples abound of people of perverse ways who prosper, and we embrace them. We shouldn't! The Lord's counsel is that righteousness is better than wealth, and that we should prize the former over the latter. We should check our attitudes and make sure we haven’t drifted into a distorted view ourselves. The source of wealth does matter, blamelessness (righteousness) does matter, perversity is bad, and truth is eternal. The good news is that the LORD will restore our perspective so that we can know that bad is bad, and good is good, and we should say so!
