Faith
“Amen, I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you”.
Matt, 17:20.
“And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.” Jn, 14: 13 &14.
“For human beings this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.” Matt, 19: 26
These are the scriptures that came into my heart as I looked at my body and made the conscious decision to take off the excess weight that I had acquired over the years. I then went out of my bedroom and found the children and told them that I had made a decision and that decision was to loose weight. In fact, I said, “I am going to loose 30 pounds.” They all rolled their eyes in doubt and sheer disbelief. They asked me how I intended to do it. I informed them that the Bible says, “if you have the faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move.” I went on to tell them that it doesn’t say what the mountains are made of and therefore I am going to apply that scripture to the mountains of fat that have accumulated on my body. I told them that I was going to command the mountains of fat to move from my body, in the name of Jesus. Again they showed signs of doubt and disbelief. They literally laughed and snickered. That didn’t stop me. I walked away, but not shaken in faith.
I went off by myself and prayed. In that pray I specifically asked God for his help in loosing weight and I told Him that without His help I could not do it, because apart from him we can accomplish nothing. I also commanded the mountains of fat to move from my body in the name of Jesus, just as I had told my children I was going to do.
Over the next few weeks I began to think about a prominent weight control group that existed but I knew their weekly meetings were further away from my home than I cared to travel. So I talked with God about that. I told him that I thought it would be great for me and a lot of other people in my community if that particular organization would have meetings in my local area. Approximately 3 weeks later I was sitting at my daughter’s Girl Scout meeting and one of the leaders was talking about going to meetings of the aforementioned weight control group. I asked her where she was attending meetings and she told me that they started holding them in a building which was right in the middle of my community. I was thrilled. I asked her how often the meetings were held and how I could join. She told me the details and the next time they met, I was there.
I joined this group on March 6th, 2003 and weighed in at 164 pounds at 5’5” in height. I set my goal weight to be 135 pounds. On August 21, 2003, I reached that goal. No I didn’t take off 30 pounds but after reading the charts of recommended weight for my height and age, both myself and the professionals of the organization decided that it would be fine to set my goal at 135.
I continued to attend the meetings and monitor my weight as I was suppose to, for an additional 6 weeks. During that 6 weeks I would gain a little and loose a little. By loosing just a little more I was able to actually weigh less than I had originally planned.
In seeing first hand how my faith in the word of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ had done in my life, I decided that I needed to share this with everyone that I could. I sincerely believe that we don’t apply the word to our everyday lives as we should. As I continue to read and study the word, I am constantly learning how it can be applied to all areas of my life.
In reading this summary, it appears that it was a simple transformation, but I am here to tell you that it was through faith that I came to the finish line. When I thought I was too tired to exercise I would ask God to send the power of the Holy Spirit to give me the boost I needed to exercise. When I was done exercising I would always take the time to thank Him for answering my pray and helping me each and everyday in reaching my goal weight. When I wanted to eat what other people were eating or I had what seemed like an uncontrollable craving, I would cry out to my God and ask him to pacify my desires. He always delivered. As my body got smaller and smaller, I would find myself thanking him when I would put on a piece of clothing and it actually looked nice because it wasn’t binding somewhere and looking unsightly.
I am not writing this article to boast of my accomplishment, but rather to show that there is truth in the scripture and I thought this was an everyday situation that many people could appreciate and learn from. I am thankful every time I look at recent snap shots of myself, that I no longer have a set of shoulders that looked like I forgot to take off the football pads before I got dressed. Thank you Lord Jesus!
