Christian Living
Since first writing “GrandMamma’s Prayers” more than five years ago, author and pastor J. G. Langston has learned much about what practical Christian living means. As an ordained and licensed minister of the gospel through World Evangelism Fellowship, the 1976 graduate of El Campo High School recently released his fourth book, “Okay, I’m Saved, Now What?”
“It seems there are so many pieces to the puzzle of what Christians should and shouldn’t do, that many young Christians, and older ones, find it easier and simpler to fit in rather than risk being labeled as an oddball,” Langston said. “I easily relate to these feelings of frustration and confusion having lived the highs and lows of Christianity for more than 33 years.”
In his book, Langston addresses such essentials as prayer, Bible study and church attendance. Also, “Alcohol, Is Moderation Okay?,” “What is Adultery, What is Fornication?,” “How Can I Be A Witness to Others,” “Hey, Where Did My Old Friends Go?” and other decisions of Christianity that seemingly have caused many to run aground.
“A simple conversation with a friend opened my eyes to the absolute confusion so many Christians are facing regarding the fundamental concepts of Christianity,” he said. “I’ve dealt with this confusion in my teaching, preaching and personal advice to others but I had yet to do so in the printed media. However, this pattern of wandering is so pronounced in the Christian body that I felt compelled to write this introductory handbook to practical Christian living.”
When Langston penned his first book, he was serving as a commissioned officer in the navy and just learning how to write professionally. He has since worked extensively with editors and established authors to learn how to better construct a story and develop dialogue that is more natural. He also consulted with other friends and pastors in Italy to give a sanity check to his latest book.
“I’ve grown tremendously as a writer since the first drafting of ‘GrandMamma’s Prayers,’” he said. “I’ve matured as a person and that has definitely been brought into my writing style as well. I’ve also learned so much about the art of writing since I’ve begun corresponding with different editors and authors. You can never learn too much when it comes down to your craft. You can only better yourself with further education,” Langston said.
In addition to “Okay, I’m Saved, Now What?,” Langston is the author of “GrandMamma’s Prayers” (Trafford Publishing, Lulu Incorporated Publishing, 2002, 2004); “The Building of a Church” (Lulu Incorporated Publishing, 2005) and “Out of the Ashes” (Lulu Incorporated Publishing, 2006).
